As anyone with a child knows, spending time with kids means you’re constantly picking up the things they pick up – tummy bugs, covid, colds, flu, sore throats, ear infections, conjunctivitis and more.
As a parent you’ll pick inevitably some of them up from your own children. As a teacher or anyone else who works in a school, there’s a greater risk of catching bugs. But there’s no need for school employees to be constantly at risk of getting ill, nor is there any need for everyday childhood diseases in schools to spread like wildfire.
Pupil and teacher health are very important, of course, but it’s also about reducing the number of sick days taken by school staff. In England during
2018-19 the total days of sickness absence taken by teachers was 2,133,253. More than 54% of teachers - 284,186 of them - went off sick at some point during the school year.
This level of employee sick leave also has an impact on school budgets. It’s expensive and time consuming having to find temporary teachers to replace staff who are off sick, and teacher continuity is best for pupils.
If your school has more than one storey it’s likely the windows won’t open for safety reasons. This means spaces inside schools can be stuffy, clammy and even smelly, none of which encourages pupils to stay awake, never mind focus on and enjoy learning!
The secret to clean, fresh, disinfected air and surfaces in schools
Fortunately all it takes is a simple set of UVC units to disinfect the air and the surfaces in a space, perhaps some fitted and others portable, and your school could become a healthier, happier place for everyone concerned.
It’s all down to UV light at a specific wavelength that
kills a huge list of viruses, bacteria and fungi fast, leaving the air and surfaces sterilised and a whole lot safer. Our units and lights are low cost, low-energy, environmentally friendly, easy to fit, simple to use, and require little or no maintenance. No chemicals, either.
Combine our popular UVC disinfection tech with our expertise in something called
evaporative cooling – which is just as ‘green’ and a great deal cheaper than conventional ventilation - and you can achieve a constant flow of cool, clean, freshly-scrubbed air throughout a building. Which means fewer pupils off sick, a better teacher attendance record, less money wasted on temporary teachers, and ultimately fewer parents having to take time off work themselves to recover from an illness they caught from their child or look after a sick child.
