Future Proofing Schools with UVC Covid disinfection

It's particularly important to achieve excellent air and surface disinfection in schools, and do it fast. Our machines come to life with a simple flick of a switch, disinfecting and cleaning school spaces safely in a remarkably short time. Here's how our UVC disinfection technology helps make schools safe for pupils, teachers, visitors, suppliers, parents and anyone else who needs to enter the building.

The challenges involved in school Covid safety
Schools face all sorts of challenges around managing the health and safety of students, teachers and support staff. Disinfecting a school effectively relies on a multi layered approach, especially in high contact and high traffic areas like shared classrooms, changing rooms, language labs, nurse stations, dispensaries and more.

Some spaces, for example computer rooms, pose an even bigger challenge because they're high traffic and high touch, as well as containing expensive, sensitive electronic devices with complicated surfaces that can be tricky to clean the regular way, with cloths, sprays and chemicals.

How do you disinfect the air and surface environment with ease? How do you do it quickly, in between lessons, without dangerous chemicals? And how can you do it all at a cost that won't break the bank?

UVC disinfection technology ticks all the boxes
UVC technology already plays a major role in keeping hospitals and other healthcare settings safe from viruses and mycobacterial threats. No wonder more and more schools are choosing to invest in fixed and static UVC LEDs, a reliable long term solution to help keep schools safe from viral threats like the current Coronavirus, as well as the winter vomiting bug Norovirus, E Coli, moulds, spores, and a host of other invisible threats.

Bacterial Simulation Software calculates disinfection levels for each room
Our own Bacterial Simulation Software cleverly visualises the germicidal irradiation effect our UVC LED lights will have on a given space. It uses a combination of time, intensity and distance to determine the right light for the area and the way it's used, which makes life nice and simple for you.

Our machines operate at a disinfection level of 50mj/cm sq, the irradiation level that kills the most pathogens of all. Viruses like Sars Cov2 and Covid-19 are deactivated at a much lower level. According to the latest research from Boston University, USA, Covid is safely destroyed by shining as little as 5mj/cm sq light on the area for just 6 seconds.

UVC disinfection safety
As far a safety goes, all our products are equipped with multiple safety features as standard, including motion sensors, sound sensors, timers, light displays, time clocks, and visible purple UVA.

How to disinfect a Computer Science Room against Covid-19

The challenge:
To disinfect complicated surfaces and clean the air between classes, and at night.

The solution:

  • We measure and inspect the room, then carry out a Bacterial Simulation Calculation to figure out the disinfection time needed between classes and overnight
  • We set the disinfection time to provide the right level of cycles between classes
  • At the end of each class the students place their keyboards and mouses closer to the light source before leaving the room
  • The teacher simply presses the start button at the exit door and walks out
  • The safety mechanism in the lamp sounds a 20 second alarm followed by a 10 second delay before the disinfection cycle begins
  • The system includes an external LCD countdown timer and a red 'stop do not enter' display outside the room, so students and staff know not to enter when cleaning is taking place
  • If someone accidentally enters the room during disinfection, the light automatically shuts off thanks to motion sensors. It won't come back on as long as movement is still detected in the room
  • The room is disinfected without using harmful, corrosive and expensive chemical treatments, and the cleaning process costs pennies

How to disinfect a school Nurse Station against Covid-19

The challenge:
In contrast to computer rooms, nurse stations tend to be smaller and deal with one child at a time. At the same time it's a high risk area since poorly children can pass their illness on to others. Under these circumstances the challenge is to keep pupils who visit the school nurse, and the nurse, safe against Covid-19 and other viral infections.

The solution:

  • First, we take measurements and calculate the right level of UVC light required to disinfect the nurse station
  • The unit is placed in the centre of the room, started with a simple push button complete with external countdown timers
  • After each child leaves the nurse station, the nurse on duty sets the process in motion for the right amount of time, for example five minutes
  • At night there's an automatic setting of one hour, after which the machine safely switches itself off
  • Using UVC to disinfect the area between pupils means the nurse station minimises the risk of passing on pathogens through the air
  • The nurse is also protected

How to disinfect common areas in schools against Covid-19

The challenge:
A school is a hive of activity, with pupils constantly moving around the premises. It's rare that any part of a school is left unoccupied for long, including common areas. Disinfection needs to happen in a timely manner that suits the janitor's schedule, and keeps the janitor as safe as the children.

The solution:

  • We've developed an affordable, practical solution for janitors that's mobile, accessible and powerful , designed so it doesn't disrupt the running of the school
  • First we measure all the areas that need to be cleaned using UVC, to determine the time and size of the easy-to-move mobile units needed for each space
  • The machine comes with a mechanical extendible arm so the cleaning crew can position the light easily and accurately
  • The 'start' button starts the machine, then staff leave the space
  • Most classrooms can be disinfected in 5 minutes or less
  • We can provide non slip stickers to help cleaning staff position the machines perfectly
  • It's easy to disinfect an entire school quickly using our machines
  • No refills or replacement parts needed
  • Incredibly economical to run – by far the cheapest on the market
  • The responsiveness to real-time threats is excellent. If a child is poorly, they are immediately removed from the area, the classroom is emptied, and the mobile machine is brought in to clean and disinfect the space within minutes
  • Staff can return to the room as soon as the light has done its work
  • No downtime, no chemical residue, no machine set-up or break-down
